Screenberry media servers powered the immersive exhibition at the UK Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The servers drive projection mapping, interactive games, dynamic lighting, and spatial audio, helping to create a memorable experience for both Japanese and international audiences.
Held every five years, the World Expo is a global event celebrating the culture and achievements of nations. This year’s edition takes place in Osaka, Japan, under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
Commissioned by the UK Government’s Department for Business and Trade, the United Kingdom Pavilion offers a journey through British creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Built on the principles of the circular economy, its modular, gridded structure is designed for easy assembly, disassembly, and reuse.
The UK Pavilion experience was conceptualised and delivered by Immersive International, the experiential masterplanning studio behind its ambitious creative vision. At the heart of the pavilion is the immersive exhibition “Come Build the Future”. This experience creates an environment that is never static — a story-first approach brought to life through a blend of projection-mapped environments, responsive lighting, layered spatial audio, and interactive gamification.
Screenberry was selected by Immersive International’s technical design team to power up this colourful and story-driven exhibition experience. The team worked closely with ES Global and Creative Technology who delivered the AV integration and show control for the pavilion.
Ben Stern, Technical Director, Immersive InternationalWe chose Screenberry for its flexible and versatile projection mapping tools to deal with the different environments and challenges involved. We also took advantage of its multi-channel audio playback, allowing each space to have a unique audio setup.
In addition, Screenberry offers seamless integration with a wide range of show control protocols. Equally important, we value the excellent support and the highly responsive development team, with whom we’ve built a strong and trusted relationship across many projects.
The exhibition is divided into Lobby, Exhibition Room, PIX Room, and Finale. Screenberry media servers are at the heart of the AV system powering all four areas:
Lobby (Act 2): A Screenberry server drives a 1x 4K flat panel display.
Exhibition Room (Act 3): A Screenberry server manages 6x 4K projectors, seamlessly aligned to create a panoramic projection on a custom-built screen.
PIX Room (Act 4): A Screenberry media server powers an interactive game featuring the PIX mascot. It drives six projectors: 2x 4K projectors illuminating the floor and 4x WUXGA projectors mapping content onto a central cube. Additionally, the server controls 136 LED cubes suspended from the ceiling using its integrated pixel mapping engine, which dynamically assigns RGBW color values in real time based on a video file. The server also manages a scoreboard system built in TouchDesigner and seamlessly integrated via TouchEngine.
Finale (Act 5): One Screenberry Pro 3x 4K server aligns and runs 10x WUXGA projectors. Three projectors illuminate narrative "Hero" screens, while the remaining seven map visuals onto a massive irregular cubical structure.
Visitors embark on a 20-minute journey with Kenji, a Japanese father, and his daughter Mei, who meet PIX, a playful, shape-shifting character inspired by children’s building blocks. As PIX guides them through imaginative scenes showcasing British creativity and innovation, they discover how simple ideas, when combined with curiosity and collaboration, can grow into world-changing solutions. Their journey brings to life the Pavilion’s central theme: “Come Build the Future.”
The UK Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka opened to the public on April 13 and will remain open every day until October 13, 2025. Visitors can explore the pavilion daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
